More than a textbook

The IACAPAP online textbook on mental health in childhood and adolescence is free of charge. It gives an overview of essential mental disorders in childhood and adolescence and associated topics. IACAPAP, ESCAP’s international sister organization, is the International Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions.
Currently, the textbook comprises ten sections, including a total of 56 clinical topics. A comprehensive introduction is followed by chapters on perinatal and early childhood risk and protective factors as well as developmental disorders. Externalising disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders and substance use disorders are each presented in a separate chapter. Furthermore, there are chapters on other disorders, psychiatry and paediatrics and miscellaneous topics such as legal and administrative.

Special features
But what makes this textbook so special? International experts have written the chapters of their field of expertise. They can be downloaded as pdf files, free of charge. All texts are written in English, and numerous are available in other languages such as Russian, French, Spanish or Portuguese. Chapters of the textbooks include links to video clips and other materials. Slide presentations are available to be applied in the scope of teaching. At the end of several chapters, comprehension questions are available for testing the learning progress. Meanwhile the textbook is an indispensable brick of mental health education of medical and nursing students in many countries.
